First off, thank you all so much for your kind words on my recent Instagram post! You all are the sweetest and so uplifting. I have been wanting to shoot a sporty look for a while and definitely think I am going to start doing more looks like this one because, to be honest, wearing athletic gear is my favoriteee! Also, buying new workout clothes is super motivating. Not gonna lie… after I bought this top I couldn’t wait to go to the gym the next morning. When you look good you feel good, right??
Anyways, living a healthy lifestyle has always been super important to me. For those of you that didn’t know, I was super active in high school, playing 3 different sports, and I played soccer for almost 18 years. This background has definitely given me the knowledge of how to maintain a heathy, well-balanced lifestyle. With that being said, I wanted to share with you all my health and fitness routine! As a little disclaimer, I am by no means a fitness guru or nutritionist. Everything I am sharing with you all is just what works for me!
As far as what I eat, I eat whatever I want! But I don’t pig out on junk food. Personally, a plate full of broccoli appeals to me more than a bag of chips. Strange, but true. I love healthy food and it always makes me stay full longer compared to if I were to snack on unhealthy, processed foods. Now I am not saying I never get a big bowl of ice-cream every once in a while and devour it in two seconds, but it’s all about moderation. Trying filling your pantry and fridge with healthy options to assure that you are making the right nutritional choices.
For breakfast, I have been really digging acai bowls! They are incredibly yummy and sooo healthy for you! I throw spinach, acai puree, strawberries and blueberries, greek yogurt, and chia seeds into a blender for the main part and then add coconut shavings, almonds, banana slices, and honey for toppings! Seriously the most delicious breakfast ever. When I don’t have time to make one of those, I usually have avocado toast! Cream cheese, avocado, and lemon pepper on sour dough is my favorite.
For lunch, I typically end up making a chicken salad sandwich or eating leftovers from whatever I made the night before. Swap the mayo for greek yogurt or avocado for a healthy (and yummy) alternative!
For dinner, I love to have a home cooked meal! I would rather stay home and cook than eat out any day. It is so much healthier and also really fun to try out new Pinterest recipes! Check out my food board to see what kind of meals I like to make! I loveee pasta so I usually make a fun, light pasta dish.
Beverages: water, water, water!! I once watched a video of a raw steak sitting in a bowl of coca-cola and what that soda did to that steak forever changed me. I rarely drink soda and if I do, it’s more than likely a sprite. Soda is so bad for you and I promise if you completely cut it out, you will notice a huge change in your body. If you crave the carbonation, get one of these and add a flavoring to it such as one of these. It tastes the exact same as soda but is actually water! Loading up on water will eliminate those mid day cravings and clear up your skin! The benefits are really endless.
For the majority of my life I was playing sports, so I never had a gym membership or anything like that. My workouts took place at practice and during games. When I stopped playing I went through a phase of never working out because I hated gym workouts and wasn’t used to them. For almost two years, it was a rare sight to see me in the gym and for a while I got away with it. I have a super high metabolism and could eat whatever I wanted without gaining weight. One day I came to the realization that just because I don’t need to workout to lose weight, doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be taking care of my body and getting active.
Now, I always try to get at least 3 good workouts in a week. Whether that be at the gym, playing tennis, or going on a hike, as long as I break a sweat and feel accomplished that’s good for me! Get into a routine and make time for your workouts! We make time to shower, eat, and watch our favorite TV episodes, so why wouldn’t we make time to take care of our bodies and get a good sweat sesh in?? Figure out what fitness schedule works for you and stick with it! You won’t see changes right away, but they will come eventually I promise! If I can’t make it to the gym or feel like being a homebody, I love Kayla Itsines’ BBG workout! It’s a killer 28 home workout that 100% will give you real results. Take progress photos every week to track your accomplishments and motivate yourself!
The main thing to keep in mind when it comes to your health and fitness is to pursue a healthy lifestyle for the right reasons. If you are hitting the gym because you want to be skinny or lose 5 pounds, that motivation is not going to last. Adopt a workout routine and eat healthy because you want to take care of your body and live a longer, healthier life. With this mindset you will see results faster and grow to enjoy the gym and eating healthy. Also, I always tell myself I want to be stronger, not skinnier. When I workout I am doing it to gain endurance, have more energy and motivation, and to be my best self! The abs and toned figure will come with all that. You only have one body, so take care of it!
I’m going to end this post with that and in the near future I will do another one talking about the specific things I do in the gym! Because I have gotten such good feedback on fitness related posts, you all can expect to see more content like this in the future!
Cheers to a healthy lifestyle! XO Heather
