10 Habits to Pick Up In 2017

With 2016 wrapping up and coming to an end, I can't help but think back on what 2016 has consisted of and also of what's in store for 2017! This year has been such a wonderful year for me, especially because I started this blog back in September! While my blog is still fairly new, I am loving every second of this new journey I am on. What started out as a blog that was mainly focused on financial advice for young adults, quickly evolved into so much more. I feel like I have found what my passions are in just the few short months that I have been at this. With that being said, I am so excited to see where this blog takes me in 2017! 

With 2017 quickly approaching and many people starting to think about their New Year Resolutions, I thought I would share a few ways for you all to start the new year off on the right foot! 

Clean as you go.

When you have a dirty plate, rinse it off right when you're finished and put it directly in the dishwasher. Don't let those dishes pile up and cause you unnecessary stress! The same goes for laundry. Fold your clothes as soon as they are done. Make your bed as soon as you get up. Put your shoes and jackets away. These simple little adjustments will take away so much preventable stress and take little to no time. 

De-clutter your space.

Donate, sell, or toss out things you don't need. About every six months I go through my closet and sell the clothes I don't wear anymore that are still in good shape and donate the rest. Go through your drawers and cupboards and get rid of the random things that never see the day of light. These hoarded objects are just taking up unnecessary space. 

Wake up 30 minutes earlier.

If you find yourself always in a rush in the morning, make it a habit to set your alarm 30 minutes earlier than normal. Take this time to enjoy a cup of coffee and a little morning yoga or just use it to get ready with a little extra time to spare. 

Stay organized.

Keep your files neatly labeled and in order. Have designated sections for your makeup and hair products. Organize your pantry. Have a place for everything and always put it back where it belongs. 

Use a planner.

I carry around a little notebook that I use to jot down thoughts, commitments, and tasks everyday. This helps keep my schedule organized and de-clutters my mind. I also have noticed that it allows me to get more done in a day because I love to check off things on my to-do list!

Unsubscribe.

My email box used to receive about 60 emails a day from random clothing sites and blogs that I would subscribe to for no reason. Everyday, I would spend far too much time deleting these emails, without even reading them. Do yourself, and your inbox, a favor and unsubscribe to irrelevant emails and newsletters. 

Get active. 

This means incorporate new habits into your every day life that result in you being more physically active. Take the stairs. Incorporate a stretch routine into your mornings. Get at minimum 30 minutes of physical activity in per day. Find a workout buddy and hit the gym together. Go on a walk. Take your dog for a walk. 

Choose healthier options. 

Swap out your side of fries with broccoli every once in a while. Choose a smoothie over a milkshake. Or frozen yogurt over ice cream. There are so many delicious, yet healthier alternatives out there to eat. While it is still okay to indulge in a bowl of ice cream once in a while, be mindful of how often you end up on the couch with a bowl of ice cream in your lap. 

Be openminded. 

Having unrealistic standards or too high of expectations is bound to result in you feeling unsatisfied or let down. While it is okay to have high standards, at least let those standards be achievable and realistic. Being openminded and flexible will do wonders for your personal life and mental health. 

Get in touch with nature. 

Watch the sunrise. Watch the sunset. Go fishing. Spend time outdoors. It is amazing what a hike through the woods or a camping trip will do for ones soul. Make 2017 the year where you are less in touch with your cell phone and more in touch with the beauty in the world around you.

My personal goals this year involve growing my blog (of course!), getting outdoors more and exploring, and just growing more as a person! Oh, and I also want to get more experimental with my cooking. Since living with Chris, I have definitely stepped it up in the cooking department, but I want to try out more unique recipes!
