A question that I get asked all the time is, "What skincare products do you use?!". Luckily, I have pretty much always had clear skin and have never struggled with intense acne. But, I use to get one or two MAJOR blemishes every once in a while. These blemishes loved to pop up when I traveled for some reason (airplanes were their favorite).
Funny story actually. When Chris and I were doing long distance, we only saw each other every few months or so and EVERY time I came to visit him (via airplane I should point out), Mt. Everest would make an appearance in the EXACT same spot on my forehead. I'm not exaggerating one bit here. I would have clear, blemish free skin for 3 months straight and the second I would hop on an airplane to visit Chris, WHABAM, giant zit on my forehead. I swear he thought that thing was just a permeant feature on my face. To say I was embarrassed and self conscious about it would be an understatement.
Anyways, enough of my zit stories... time to talk skin care!
Taking care of your skin is so so so important. Not only does taking care of your skin make you look great for a day or even a week, it sets your skin up for looking beautiful and healthy through out your life. Taking care of your skin goes much further than just incorporating a good face washing routine into your schedule. In order to maintain healthy, youthful-looking skin, your nightly skin care routine is just the first step. BUT this step is one of the most important.
The number one rule I have before going to bed is removing ALL my makeup. Leaving on your mascara is so bad for your lashes and sleeping with your makeup on leads to severely clogged pores, breakouts, dry skin, WRINKLES (cringe), chapped lips, and even eye infections. The list goes on, but you all get the point.
Here are the steps in my skin care routine:
1. Remove all my makeup with Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water. I saturate a cotton pad and wipe it all over my face until all my makeup is removed.
2. Use Mario Badescu's Enzyme Cleansing Gel to wash my face thoroughly. This is a non-foaming, gel cleanser that removes any of the leftover dirt and makeup that was left on your face from the previous step. This cleanser also contains: papaya and grapefruit extracts which are exfoliating alpha hydroxy acids that help prevent dulling build-up that can cause blackheads and pimples.
3. After I wash my face, I always follow up with Mario Badescu's Cucumber Cleansing Lotion. This toner not only smells great, but controls shine in your T-zone (which I love because I have oily skin) and prevents future blemishes by thoroughly cleaning your skin, removing pore clogging residue and disinfecting skin's surface.
4. I follow up these steps with my favorite moisturizer by It Cosmetics. This cream: deeply hydrates, restores radiance and reduces the look of pores, uneven texture and discoloration. It is great for all skin types and is even Paraben-free and hypoallergenic. What I love most about this cream is that it is designed to be used morning and night, it doesn't leave my face feeling oily, and it is anti-aging.
That's it for my Nighttime Skin Care Routine! Ever since I really adopted a good skin care routine into my schedule, I have noticed such a difference in my skin! It has been more supple, soft, blemish-free, and has a more even skin tone. I am a huge fan of all things Mario Badescu so I wanted to mention two other products I use from them and love:
